Athletes and Causes presents a check to Chris Archer for The Archway Foundation
Chris Archer is no stranger to “paying it forward.” His grandparents, Ron and Donna Archer, adopted Chris when he was just 2 years old. They fostered in him a foundation of education, and every opportunity to succeed in life, which has led to a successful baseball career, and the heart of a philanthropist.
Because of the love and support he got from his family, he has recognized how important it can be to empower children to fulfill their dreams. He launched ‘The Archway Foundation’ with the primary goal of providing support to help people, and especially children in his community, live, grow, and thrive.
At this year’s Athletes and Causes event, we were proud to have The Archway Foundation as a beneficiary. This past Saturday, Athletes and Causes presented the Foundation with a check for $10,000 from that event. With these funds, we know that Archer will target organizations most in need. In the past, Archer has teamed up with the YMCA, the Boys and Girls Club, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters to donate time, money, and equipment to several of their branches.
Chris also raises funds through his K’s for Kids project, as a way the public can get involved with sports philanthropy. As a donor, you can pledge a certain dollar amount for each strikeout that Chris Archer records. With each strikeout, your donation to The Archway Foundation helps fund a variety of organizations.
But The Archway Foundation does more than just partner. In fact, the core outreach initiative of The Archway Foundation is their Baseball team – “The Archers”. Members of the team play for free, with the entry fees, uniforms, coaching, and field fees all covered by the Foundation. As members of The Archers baseball team, kids are required to participate in community service projects, or work on their own education by completing reading assignments.
The importance of education isn’t just something he stresses to his baseball team. Chris stresses the importance of education when he visits local schools, youth programs, and hospitals, where he reads to kids.
Last year, Chris Archer was nominated by the Rays for the Roberto Clemente Award, and named the Paul C. Smith Community Champion. He strives on and off the field to bring awareness to the causes he cares about most. This sports philanthropist is one that Athletes and Causes is always happy to support.
